What barbers are trained for
Barbering is built around short hair, clipper work and the edges of the head. Fading, blending, line-ups, necklines, razor finishes and beard work are the core of the craft. A barber spends their day judging how a quarter-millimetre difference in guard length reads on a curved skull — a skill that only comes from repetition.
What salons are trained for
Salon training centres on longer hair, scissor technique over length, chemical services and colour. If you wear your hair past the collar, want significant colour work, or need complex layering through length, a salon stylist may be the more natural fit.
The honest overlap
