Grooming for groups before weddings and private events

Cutting one person is straightforward. Cutting six on the morning of a wedding is a scheduling exercise, and it goes wrong in predictable ways. This is how to plan it properly.

Decide the day before the venue

The single most common mistake is booking everyone for the morning of the ceremony. Haircuts look their best a couple of days after they're cut, once everything settles, and a same-day schedule leaves no room for anything running late.

In the shop, or at the venue?

Consecutive appointments in Fisherman's Village give you the better technical result — proper chairs, wash basin, full lighting — and every price is listed on the services menu. It also turns into a decent couple of hours out for the group.

Build the schedule around service length

Look at the durations on the services menu and add a buffer for each person rather than one buffer at the end. A rough planning rule:

• A haircut and a beard trim together take noticeably longer than a haircut alone.
• Someone changing their style rather than tidying it needs extra consultation time.
• Colour and perming are quoted after a consultation and cannot be squeezed into a group morning.

Send us the list, not the headcount

"Six people" is hard to schedule. "Four haircuts, two haircuts with beard trims, one of them wants a skin fade" is something we can build a timetable around. Send the date, the number of people and what each one wants as early as you can.

Things worth agreeing in advance

1. 01Who pays — one person for the group, or everyone individually.
2. 02The running order, so nobody arrives three hours early.
3. 03Whether anyone is trying a new style, or everyone is tidying what they already have.
4. 04A hard cut-off time, and what happens to anyone who misses it.

Choosing barbers for a group
