If it is your first haircut in Thailand, the practical details matter more than the style you have in mind. This is how barbershops generally work on Koh Samui, and what to expect when you sit down.
Prices and payment
Prices are quoted in Thai baht and, in a professional shop, published before you book. Ours are listed in full on the Services page. Card payment is widely accepted in Fisherman's Village, but smaller shops elsewhere on the island may be cash only. Tipping is appreciated rather than expected.
Booking versus walking in
Most island shops accept walk-ins, and most get busy in the late afternoon and through the high season. Booking online removes the uncertainty and lets you choose your barber and time. Our booking page is open around the clock and works from any time zone before you fly.
Language
In tourist areas you will usually find English spoken. Even so, a reference photo is the clearest way to communicate a length or a fade height in any language, and it takes the guesswork out of the consultation.
What a full service usually includes
- A consultation before any clipper is picked up
- The cut itself, finished with scissor detail at the edges
- A hair wash and conditioner in shops that offer it
- A dry and a light finishing product, shown to you before it is used
Hygiene
Look for a fresh towel and cape per guest, sanitised blades and single-use razor blades. It takes thirty seconds to check and it tells you most of what you need to know about a shop.
Planning around your trip
Book early in your holiday rather than on the last day. Sun, salt water and humidity all work against a fresh cut, and a haircut on day two travels with you for the rest of the trip. If you are heading to a wedding or a dinner, leave two or three days between the cut and the event.

- Yes. The team speaks Thai and English, and we cut hair for guests from all over the world every week. If you're more comfortable in another language, bring a photo of the cut you want — between that and a short conversation, nothing gets lost.
- Can tourists book online before arriving in Koh Samui?
- Yes, and many do. You can book from anywhere in the world through Fresha, including before you fly. Times are always shown in Thailand time (ICT, UTC+7), so double-check the conversion from your home timezone before confirming. Booking your cut for the first day or two of your trip is a good idea if you have photos, a wedding or a dinner planned.
