Where to get a haircut in Koh Samui
A practical area-by-area guide to getting your hair cut on Koh Samui, including timing, prices and what to expect.
If you're staying on Koh Samui for more than a week or two, a haircut moves from optional to necessary fairly quickly. The heat, the salt water and the sun accelerate everything. This is a straightforward guide to where to go and how to plan it.
The main areas
- Chaweng — the busiest strip on the island, with the widest range of everything. Convenient if you're staying there, though evenings can be crowded and noisy.
- Lamai — quieter than Chaweng and popular with long-stay visitors. Fewer specialist barbershops.
- Bophut and Fisherman's Village — the north coast's most walkable evening district, with restaurants, cafés and the Friday market. Ten to fifteen minutes from the airport.
- Maenam and Nathon — mostly local shops serving residents. Excellent value, though English-language consultation varies.
What a haircut costs on the island
Prices range enormously, from a few hundred baht at a roadside shop to premium barbershop pricing for a full package. What you're paying for at the higher end is consultation, technique, sanitised tools, professional products and time in the chair — a proper men's haircut takes around forty-five minutes, not twelve. Timing your visit
Late morning and mid-afternoon are the calmest windows almost everywhere on the island. Evenings between 18:00 and 21:00 are the busiest, because that's when everyone comes back from the beach. In high season — roughly December to March, plus July and August — book ahead if the time matters to you.
Getting there
Taxis, songthaews and Grab all serve the north coast. If there's any language gap with your driver, share the Google Maps pin rather than the address — it removes all ambiguity. Scooter parking is available on the streets around Fisherman's Village, with public parking areas nearby.
